How to Apply for an INDIAN Passport.

I am writing this blog as I was pleased with the changes in the process of Applying for an Indian passport.

Government of India has really worked alot on removing the Agent/Middle man from the picture.

Was impressed with the vision and what it says is what we get.

Vision

"To deliver passport services to citizens in a timely, transparent, more accessible, reliable manner and in a comfortable environment through streamlined processes and committed, trained and motivated workforce"

Minister of External Affairs

Process

  • Go to http://passport.gov.in/
  • Create a login id.Please note that password expires after 60 days.
  • Once you are logged in,click on Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport.

You can apply for a fresh passport or Reissue of a passport by 2 methods:

Method 1

  • You can download the soft copy of the form.
  • Fill it offline.
  • Upload the filled form on the site again.

Method 2( I prefer this method).

  • You can fill the application form online.

Once the form is submitted, you can go to View Saved/Submitted Applications tab, select Manage Appointment at around 7:00 pm IST,because the booking of an appointment day/time can only be done once in a DAY and will open at 7:30 pm IST sharp (*** very Important).
It took me 3 days to place an appointment as you need to be very fast and the appointments get booked like hot cakes. You will have only 45 - 60 secs to place your appointment so be on time or you will have to sit and wait for the next day ;).

Once an Appointment is booked, take the print out and go to your PSK.Please note to take all your documents and photo copies (Even if you forget the photocopies its ok there is a facility to do this in the PSK itself) as you might get the appointment cancelled due to lack of an original document.
